Nanoemulsions exist in large part to solve a basic incompatibility. Oil (in this case, cannabinoid oil) and water do not mix, and a well-engineered emulsion disperses the oil into droplets small enough to remain evenly distributed in a beverage throughout its shelf life. That even distribution is what makes consistent dosing possible.

Emulsion performance can still be compromised, and those failures trace back to how the emulsion was engineered, and its compatibility with the beverage environment and manufacturing process.

Inside the can

Low pH, high sugar, high shear, and sustained heat are all forces that work against emulsion performance. As the protective shell around the oil droplet wears down or fails, the particles clump together and rise to the top of the can. The result is a foul-tasting product with uneven dosing.

Across a production run

Each can across a batch must match its label's potency claim. Improper mixing and processing can jeopardize consistency throughout a production run. Variance is a reality, common in manufacturing of all types; it is important to identify the right partners and processes to minimize the variance windows. What to require

Inside the can. Emulsion stability data and compatibility data for your specific formulation. Stability testing answers whether the emulsion holds over time. Compatibility testing answers whether it holds in your beverage, at your pH and sugar level.

Across a run. A proven processor, and BME testing (beginning, middle, end) before the first run with any new manufacturer, any new SKU, or any other change to the process. Three cans pulled from each third of the run and tested separately show whether potency held as the tank drained. Blending them into one composite sample averages the three points and reports a number that looks correct whether or not the run was even.

Where we sit

We control the emulsion: how well it resists separation, and how closely one of our lots matches the next. Both are measurable, and we test against the conditions a real beverage puts an emulsion through.

Unfortunately, we do not control mixing protocol, fill accuracy, line speed, thermal exposure during processing, or what happens to a pallet in a warehouse. Those decisions belong to the manufacturer and the supply chain. Yes. A well-engineered nanoemulsion stays evenly dispersed through a normal shelf life, and production variance is managed through partner selection and the execution of best practices such as in-run sampling. Inconsistency points to an emulsion mismatched to its formulation or a scale nobody managed, not to a limit of the category.

Why do two cans of the same THC beverage sometimes feel different?
